Hockey 2 - Home

Hockey 2
Hockey 2 is for boys and girls born in 2004 and have played hockey before. We have three ice times per week, a practice or game on Saturdays, practice or game on Sundays and a development time on Mondays or Wednesdays (exact times tba).
Richmond Minor Hockey’s development program has been specially designed by professional coaches from Pacific Elite Hockey School. Groupings are based upon ability level so players will skate with others of similar ability. The specific day for development ice will depend on what skills your child needs to focus on. Evaluations are done by an independent coach at the beginning of the season.
Hockey 2 focuses on skill development from September to December. Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA) schedules 6 games in Hockey 2 to be played after January. Additional scrimmages and exhibition games may be scheduled by individual coaches once our teams are balanced.
Games are played with an equal amount of ice for every player and a 2 minute buzzer announces shift changes. The play is stopped while the players learn to exit and enter the ice safely. Coaches are on the ice during the games because our focus remains on skill development and fun. Each player also has an opportunity to play goal at this level.
The first two weeks of hockey is to warm up after the summer break. We are mandated by PCAHA to have balanced teams so we will spend the following two weekends doing skill and game evaluations. Based upon these results, we will temporarily assign children to teams with the intention that no single team is stronger or weaker than the others. We then evaluate our balancing by playing number of “balancing games” against other Richmond Minor Hockey teams. If we discover that our teams are unbalanced, we may need to move a few players around to even things out. This continues until our teams are balanced and PCAHA gives our teams official status.
