Renegades Bantam C2 Banner Day Champions

DREAM SEASON GETS EVEN BETTER

During the weekend of March 12-14, the Renegades continued their winning streak by sweeping all five of their games to win the annual Summerland Bantam Tournament and did so in commanding fashion by having the lowest penalty minutes (less than 1/3 of the team with the highest); lowest goals-against (only 1/4 of the team with the 2nd lowest); and of course, the highest goals-for. The boys played with class and dignity throughout the tournament and represented the Richmond Minor Hockey Association and the City of Richmond extremely well.
The Renegades consists of Brandon Brock, Darren Christy, Luke Gilmore, Matthew Godinez, Liam Hawbolt, Derrick Larocque, Brandon Leung, Joe MacDonald, Spencer Powell, Alex Pratt, Jeremy Pratt, Colton Rodger, Evan Samira, Josiah Tsang, Sean Wong, Luke Yam, Daniel Yoshida, and Kristian Young and are coached by AJ Pratt, Kevin Hawbolt, Vincent Li, and Angus MacDonald.

The Richmond Pee Wee A2 Blues travelled down to Southern California over
the Holiday Break to play in the Anaheim Ice Winter Classic. There were
over 50 teams representing divisions from Mites to Midget with 2 Canadian
Teams - the York Toros (semifinalists in Midget) and our Richmond Blues
team!!!
The Blues went 2 & 1 in the Round Robin and were led by terrific
goaltending from Matthew Wong who let in only 1 goal in his 2 starts!
Their only blemish was a 5-2 loss to a skilled Jr Ducks team in a
fast-paced game that also saw our Chris Sipsas, suffer a wrist & elbow
fracture. In the semi-finals, Harmony Sander was superb as she turned
away 29 shots and backstopped the Blues as they extracted revenge against
these same Ducks in a strong team effort. Our Captain Daniel Rubin
registered a Hat Trick and the Tournament's leading Goal Scorer Daniel
Vavrukh notched the winner on a nifty passing play from Nicos Gaal in the
5-2 Victory!!!
The High-Scoring Blues led all teams in Goals For and in the Championship
game, Tournament MVP Alex Ounpuu, Mitch Rennie, Adam Rubin and Tournament
Points Leader Jerry So notched key goals. In addition, the Blues led all
teams with the least Goals Against and in the Finals they held the
Renegades to just 1 Goal on 8 shots thanks to a monster effort by our
defense of Jack Dean, Jake Pruden, Merrick Roberts and Jocelyn Tang to
secure the banner for RMHA!!!
On behalf of the Coaching Staff (Trevor Rennie - Coach; Sid Rubin -
Forwards; Mike Pruden - Defence; Chris Roberts - Goalies; TJ Sanders -
Safety; Lloyd Dean - Manager) we'd like to thank the players, parents and
volunteers who made this tournament such a success both on and off the
ice!
Unable to attend and sorely missed were teammates Owen Eagles, Kushan
Samarawickremada and Nolan Villerius.

The Richmond Minor Bantam C2 Renegades got a shiny new ornament for their Christmas trees.
Donning the new Richmond Minor Blues jersey, The Renegades won the Gold Medal game at the Coquitlam winter tournament. This win didn’t seem likely after the Renegades lost their first game against the very physical Coquitlam Warriors. But they were determined to get their game together quickly, and ended up getting into the playoffs by completing the round robin play with wins over Abbotsford 7-1 and then Port Coquitlam 11-1. Their first playoff game was against the Coquitlam Rams which the Renegades controlled from start to finish resulting in a 5-0 shutout victory.
In the semi-finals rematch against the now undefeated Coquitlam Warriors, The Renegades prevailed 6-2. Richmond then met a big, hard-checking, undefeated South Delta team in the final championship game and was victorious with a 5-0 score. The win epitomized the tournament for The Renegades, creative puck moving defense men, opportunistic forwards, solid goal-tending and team defensive play.
The Renegades are Bowen Bakken, Andrew Cho, Tyler Georgelin, Cole Johnston, Bryan Joyce, Connor Larson, Danica Lum, Alexa Mah, Geordie Mason, Clint Mofakham, Colin Naylor, Alec Parhar, Ryan Samra, Thomas Thiessen, Stephen Watanabe, Tyler Yip and Isaiah Yu.
Experience behind the bench was key, Pat Thiessen is the head coach, assisted by Tom Johnston, Trevor Bakken, Steve Yip. When asked about the tournament overall Thiessen had this to say ”The format of tournament play, with so many games played in a short period of time gives teams an opportunity to come together and gel and it was really evident period by period, that this was happening with our players – it was a ton of fun for us coaches to be a part of this”.
